What are jiggers?

Jiggers, also known as chigoes or sand fleas, are small insects that burrow into the skin and cause intense itching, swelling, and even infection. These tiny pests are a major problem in many parts of Western Kenya, where they affect the health and well-being of countless individuals.

The impact of jiggers on those affected is significant. The insects burrow into the skin of the feet, causing discomfort and even pain. If left untreated, the affected area can become infected, leading to even more serious health problems. This can make it difficult for individuals to walk or even carry out their daily activities, hindering their ability to work and care for their families.

Despite the prevalence of jiggers in Western Kenya, the problem is often overlooked and underfunded. The lack of resources and attention dedicated to addressing the issue means that many people are struggling with the impact of jiggers on their daily lives.

There are steps that can be taken to address the problem of jiggers in Western Kenya. One approach is to raise awareness of the issue and educate the public on how to prevent and treat jigger infestations. This could involve distributing informational materials and hosting community events to increase knowledge of the problem and how to prevent it.

Another solution is to provide access to medical treatment for those affected by jiggers. This could include setting up clinics or mobile health units that offer treatment and care for those affected by the insects. We work with a partner organization, Smile Icon, to help provide individuals with treatments.  These clinics help to reduce the spread of the problem and improve the overall health of those affected.

In conclusion, jiggers are a serious problem in Western Kenya that must be addressed. Through education and access to medical treatment, it is possible to reduce the impact of jiggers on the lives of those affected and improve the overall health and well-being of the communities in Western Kenya.

TAX EXEMPT STATUS

We are so excited to announce that we have officially received our 501(c)3 status! We began this process at the beginning of 2020 and due to the pandemic, it has taken much longer than we anticipated! We thank God that we have been blessed with this status and we pray that we will be able to do amazing things because of it!

So what does 501(c)3 status mean?

It means any donations made to Light Mission Alliance are now tax deductible!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years! We are so excited to see how God will work through our team in the coming years!

Lima soccer tournament

Since COVID-19 hit Kenya back in March, students have been struggling to find meaningful activities to participate in. Students have found themselves turning to activities that will take them down paths that are not good for themselves. LiMA saw this issue arising and wanted to find a way to help alleviate some of the stagnant activity that was taking place. October. 31st through November 1st, LiMA hosted a soccer tournament at Kokise Primary School. This tournament consisted of 12 teams. During this event, LiMA was provided with the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and pray with all who were able to attended. LiMA is also welcomed local leaders of the community to the tournament. Overall, there was a very positive response from the community regarding this event. Each team was presented with a soccer ball and the winner of the tournament was presented with a traveling trophy that will be used every year to help encourage healthy competition amongst the players.

COVID-19 and Our Response

Our Kenyan team members have been working hard to address major needs that have arisen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of damage directly and indirectly globally. Most families in Kenya are unable to provide basic needs to their families and things are getting harder by the day. Our team finished packing 100 bags of groceries which will be distributed this coming week to some of the most vulnerable families that have been identified. We are so excited to be able to give a hand during this difficult time and you can always join hands with us! To our partners and friends who have made this possible, may the Lord bless you so much for your generosity.

Exodus 14: 13-14 And Moses  said to the people, "Fear not,  stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians who you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord  will fight for you, and  you have only to be silent.

We are so blessed to have each of you as partners. Your prayers and donations make such a huge difference in the lives of the people in Kenya. We thank you for your continued generosity.

Christmas Project Success!

We would like to start off by thanking each and every person who participated in the Annual Christmas Meal Project. We could not make such a huge impact in Kenya without our amazing supporters!

Over the last three years, we have been providing families in rural Kenya with a meal for Christmas. Every year, at Christmas time, families from major cities return home to their villages to spend Christmas with their families. Unfortunately, this puts a financial strain on the families that live in the village year round. We decided it was important to show the love of Christ by providing families with a meal that will not only feed themselves, but their entire family.

On average, families consist of 10 people (including extended family members). With not much income, it can be very costly to feed each of these people. With the help of many people, we were able to feed 120 families this year!! This doubled the amount of families we were able to help last year (60 families).

This project was started to help lift the burden that is placed on these families shoulders, but it has turned into an amazing outpouring of Christ's love. Thank you for your continuous generosity. We cannot wait to see the amazing things God will continue to do!
